SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT #55 Serving the towns of Baldwin, Cornish, Hiram, Parsonsfield and Porter the Sacopee Valley School District is located in a rural part of Maine approximately thirty miles west of Portland. There is some light industry as well as farming (dairy/apple orchards) and forestry. The area also serves as a second home/summer resort area for many out-of-state residents.
SACOPEE VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL – CEEB CODE 200-948
Sacopee Valley is a comprehensive four-year high school serving 400 students in grades 9 through 12. The high school is accredited by the State of Maine and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
SACOPEE VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
The high school program stresses preparation for post-secondary employment or education. The college preparatory program requires that students take as a minimum Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, two lab sciences (preferably College Biology, College Chemistry or Physics), four social studies courses and two years of a language, i.e. French, Latin and Spanish. However, those preparing for college or university are strongly encouraged to go beyond the minimum particularly in the math and science areas: Pre-Calculus and Calculus in the math area and Anatomy and Physiology or Advanced Placement Biology in the science area.
Along with Advanced Placement Biology, Sacopee offers AP Chemistry, Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition, AP Language and Composition, AP Spanish, and AP Virtual High School courses. The Calculus course offered at Sacopee Valley is articulated with Calculus A at the University of Southern Maine, so that any of our students that receive a grade of 85 or better are awarded three college credits from USM. Southern Maine Community College offers one course each semester on site at Sacopee Valley High School.
